5) Billy Lee & Jimmy Lee (Double Dragon) - If I had to go save my girlfriend from a gang in the slums of New York, who not a better person to bring than my brother? Oh, wait my twin brother! Double Dragon was originated in the arcade era in 1987 brought to the NES soon after. These two so called martial artist have kicked, punched, and jumped through countless numbers of levels together and even appearing in a couple of crossover games together such as Battletoads, Super Spike V'Ball and River City Ransom - From the arcade versions, to the NES, to even the 8-bit computers, Billy and Jimmy Lee have always been by each other's sides - Kickin' it oldschool at number 5.

4)  The Heavy and The Medic (Team Fortress 2) - Wherever there's a big stalky guy wielding a giant Gatling gun, a fragile medic is sure to follow. I have to admit until Valve announced that Team Fortress 2 was now free to play, I have never touched the game - but now actually seeing what makes TF2 one of the most played fps games on the PC I have been getting my practice. Playing for at least an hour every night I have noticed one major aspect about the game I either love or hate. The Heavy and The Medic, this is one duo you do not want to try to kill alone. If the non-stop rounds of metal slugs being shot at your face wasn't enough, The Heavy is followed by and being healed by his designated medic where ever he goes , making this duo a definite team asset to winning a match. So being such an unstoppable combo and relying on each others abilities to literally dominate the battlefield, the heavy and the medic has earned the fourth spot our list .

3) Donkey Kong & Diddy (Donkey Kong Country) - So there might be some controversy as to why I would pick Donkey and Diddy Kong to put on this list over the Mario brothers, but I'll tell you why. Ever since the beginning of the Mario series, it's been just that - Mario. Luigi is always in the shadows as Mario takes all the fame. In the Mario series you very rarely see the Brothers at each other's side. What kind of brotherhood duo is that? On the other hand, Donkey Kong and his nephew Diddy have always had each other's backs (literally) trying to get all those delicious bananas back from those dirty Kremlings. Like our number 1 pick, Donkey and Diddy can use some basic maneuvers together to obtain unreachable barrels, reach a secret area, or even knock out enemies using the barrel roll ability. It is much easier to survive each stage with controlling the duo instead of trying to do it solo, but luckily if one of them gets hurt they get captured and put into a barrel for the other to find - until then the remaining Kong is left alone and very fragile to any damage, so finding his partner safely is sometimes a tedious task. Donkey and Diddy Kong were separated in Donkey Kong Country 2, labeled Diddy Kong's Quest, where Donkey Kong gets kidnapped by Kaptain K. Rool and Diddy was left to rescue him. The dedication Diddy had to get his Uncle back was immense - I admit that I had a difficult time with that game and at times was pretty frustrating, but I continued on and eventually Donkey and Diddy reunited to never be split up again.

2)  Bill Rizer and Lance Bean (Contra) - The sounds of little red bullets shooting from their guns, exploding droids and doorways gives me a feeling of nostalgia. From the NES(1987) to the PS3(2011) Contra has survived the trials of time.The best way to try to beat Contra is playing co-op with a friend. Once Bill and Lance team up they are nearly unstoppable, even with the insanely difficult levels of the Contra world. Bill and Lance handle the side-scrolling battlefield without a sweat...Though I can't speak for the player, when i used to play this series i was always sweating my balls off! As intense as it was trying to dodge every little bullet or ball of fire, it was always easier playing with a friend, the constant flow of bullets and lazers and bombs force the two players into communication and ultimately makes for great teamwork through out the whole game. Making Bill Rizer and Lance Bean our second pick.

1) Tyson Rios & Elliot Salem (Army of Two) - Okay so I never had the chance to pick this game up and play it, but the title of the game is Army of Two so i had to look into it. Doing my research I have came to the conclusion that Rios and Salem definitely deserve to be on this list. In 1993 Rios and Salem was in the 75th Ranger Regiment together, after being tasked to pull off an assassination attempt on a local warlord, they have been covering each others back ever since. The reason why they made it to this list is how well they work together on the battlefield, the capability of these two to interact with one another while fighting waves of goons makes for complete harmony in the midst of complete chaos. The co-op for Army of Two has to one of the best ways to get maximum teamwork while playing with a friend, there are many maneuvers  Rios and Salem can execute to insure a true co-op experience. Here are only some of the tactical maneuvers they can use in various situations.

Weapon Swap: Players switch weapons with each other to diversify their arsenal.

Parachuting: In some missions Salem and Rios will be traversing the skies via parachute. Then one player controls the parachute, while the other shoots targets on the ground.

Back to Back: Both players go back to back to cover each other's non-armored backsides.

Step Jump/Pull Up: One person stands up against a wall and holds his hands out while the other person gets lifted up. The second person can then reach down and pull the first person up.

Riot Shield: One of the players picks up a riot shield or a car door and both players hide behind it. While one player holds the shield, the other player has the ability to open fire at incoming enemies. The player that carries the shield also has the ability to hit enemies with the shield using melee attack.

Co-op Snipe: Both players get into a sniping maneuver to double their power or take out two targets at the same time. To ensure they fire simultaneously, an automated countdown will be initiated.

Because of their ability to maximize the best gaming experience you can share with a friend, Tyson Rios and Elliot Salem is a shoo-in for the #1 spot on our Top 5 video game duos.

Honorable Mentions - Sonic & Tails, Mario Brothers, Ratchet & Clank, Banjo & Kazooie, Jak & Dexter.  All of these were great choices but I only had 5 spots to fill and I think they were the best choices.
