Is Starcraft 2 the Most Skill-Based Game? Featured

A simple question, is Starcraft 2 the most skill-based game out as of right now?

Well to start off this is my personal opinion on that question and YES I do believe that is it the most skill based game out. My reasoning behind that is because take a look at all of the competitive games out there right now, Halo Reach, COD Black Ops, Street Fighter's, Marvel vs Capcom. League of Legends, and there are many more but I just wanted to name some of the big games that are out there. Starcraft 2 is a real time strategy (RTS) game, and this pretty much means that it is a chess game but with out turns. So with that being said you have to be on top of everything that goes on in the game to be the best of the best. Now some may say well Halo Reach and COD take teamwork and skill to be good at it. True, you do have to have teamwork and skill to be good at both but the thing with SC2 is that you are a one man team and you don't have anyone else there to possibly carry you if you aren't have a great round. This makes SC2, in my opinion, a more skill-based game. You are the player that controls everything that goes on in the game. Whoever controls things better will come out on top. When I watch SC2 I know that I am going to watch one player out smart, out think, and out play the other player in order to win the game. There are very few or no inconsistent things in SC2 so players can't sit there and blame "bloom" or "hit-scanning" on why they lost. Players in SC2 lose because they got out played at some point in the game.

I know there are some people out there that will say that a certain race is overpowered at the moment (Protoss) but with the new GSL maps implemented into tournament play it really opens up a lot of things for the players to adjust to. In my interview with Huskystarcraft I asked both of them what they think about the game, as far as balanced go, and they pretty much told me the same thing. "Blizzard is always on top of what goes on in SC2 and they take a real hard look at what races may seem to be overpowered. They aren't going to nerf a race just because that race is OP on that certain map." Husky said. I totally agree with what Husky said, Blizzard isn't going to nerf a race just because a bunch of people cry and complain about them. They are going to look into what is going on and make the game as balanced as they can. Going back to the new GSL maps, these maps are HUGE! Which brings my attention to another quote from Husky, "...If you remember back in the Broad War days at the end, the maps were huge! This made the gameplay a lot more exciting to watch, and play because you could still rush with proxies or play a macro style game." Again, Husky is absolutely right. Having wide open big maps makes the gameplay not only fun to watch but when you are playing you feel like you have a lot more options to go if you want to. This is going to make players have a lot of crazy builds which makes SC2 feel like a whole new game.

My point in all this is that SC2 takes a tremendous amount of skill to learn everything. There are so many elements to the game that you have to be good at. Being able to scout and find out what your opponent is doing is your way of being able to prepare yourself to counter that specific unit, expanding at the right times, making sure to have the right amount of attacking units to defend while you build workers, knowing what units counter other units, and that is just the brain part of it! You also have to have skill in microing you units around and not letting them be killed, knowing your hotkeys to build units faster, making sure that when you are in a battle to macro at the same time to reinforce your current army, and knowing when to attack and when to pull out. The staff at pr0gaming.com always say the 'skill gap', and that means the gap between average, good, and pro players. SC2 has a huge skill gap between the average, good, and pro players. Pro players are always tweeking their builds and coming up with new strategies all the time, that is why there are so many different winners every tournament. Even the top tier known pros can get taken out by a not so known pro player just by being on top of their game and having a different strategy. If one crucial mistake is made during the game by a player it could effect them at that moment or ten minutes later in the game. All in all I feel that SC2 takes the most amount of skill to be a professional at it and I believe that it will be like this for a very long time!

I would love to know what everyone thinks of SC2 or if they feel that there is another game out there that takes more skill than others! Please comment down below!
