What is this Destiny you ask? Well it sure isn't Halo, so far there have been no signs pointing toward Master Chief making an epic comeback. So far we know that Bungie has teamed up with Activision Blizzard to create a brand new title that has been an ultra hush hush subject until now. All we do know for sure is that Destiny is staying within the FPS realm, but on a massive MMO scale. According to a source Destiny will run on an entirely new engine and will sport "unique online connectivity and matchmaking technology." The source said Bungie's MMOG will be "WoW in space."
A confirmed source released the existence of Destiny after being layed-off from Bungie. Apparently he and 30 others contractors who worked with Bungie to create Halo were let go with little to no notice, a claim which bungie has completely denied. Kotaku has been in contact with several other verified sources who also elaborate on the existence of Destiny, and the treatment of contractors. Whether or not the contractors were treated properly isn't of much concern to Halo fans, they just want to know what the hell Destiny will have to offer. We know Destiny is coming, but what will she have in store for us, and will it satisfy Halo/Bungie fans!
At this year's Game Developers Conference, Bungie's writer/design director Joseph Staten expressed a teasing tale of juicy fresh info on the studio's first post-Halo title. Here's what he had to say.
"I think it's a shame that we spent so much time working on this world called Halo and then we only let people spend six or eight or 10 hours in it," Staten said. "Wouldn't it be great if we could make a world that was always there for you, with lots of stories to tell, like a big, infinite storytelling horizon? Man, that would be great."
For now all we can do is ponder and wait for Bungie to release some irritating puzzle, or cute easter egg to make us chase after these long sought after questions. Or maybe more pissed, layed-off contractors will spill the beans on the whole story. Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed..
